Zoom Webinar: Untangling the Tijuana River Crisis

June 25 @ 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm

The public, the media, and even local elected officials are often confused about the pollution crisis unfolding along the Southern Border, and for good reason: it stems from a multi-faceted, and multi-jurisdictional nightmare. The Tijuana wastewater collection system consists of numerous pumps, pipes, and treatment plants, and is connected to treatment infrastructure in the U.S.

Leaks, spills, and insufficient treatment capacity lead to daily dry weather sewage flows into the Tijuana River and the ocean. Wet weather presents another suite of issues, bringing with it a horrible array of toxic pollutants, and burying the Tijuana River Estuary with literally tons of sediment and trash with every storm. This has contaminated the water, sediment, and air on both sides of the border, causing an ongoing ecological disaster and public health crisis.

San Diego Coastkeeper Senior Attorney, Patrick McDonough, will explain the causes of the Tijuana River Sewage Crisis, the current state infrastructure failures, the progress already underway, and how you can help! There will be a presentation followed by a Q&A session.
