Courtney Brown

Legal Associate
Hometown: Newport Beach, CA
Pronouns: She/Her/Hers
My favorite San Diego beer is:

Harland Brewing Co., Japanese Lager

My favorite way to enjoy water is: from a glass, at room temp. Also just generally being near the ocean, swimming, and surfing tiny waves!
I want to see a world where: individuals feel more connected to the natural resources in their own communities, leading to a more informed and empowered collective action of environmental stewardship.
Courtney Brown, lawyer for San Diego Coastkeeper

Courtney first joined Coastkeeper as a legal extern in January 2024, while finishing her final semester of law school. After a brief hiatus to study for the California bar exam, she enthusiastically returned in August 2024 as a post-bar legal associate, supporting the legal team’s policy, litigation, and advocacy efforts.

Courtney earned her undergraduate degree in Journalism with a minor in Environment & Society from San Diego State University. While completing her JD at California Western School of Law, she remained dedicated to environmental and public interest law. Her experience spans NGOs, government, and the private sector.

She feels fortunate to call Southern California home, attributing her love for the coast to her formative years by the ocean. She is inspired by Coastkeeper’s mission to advance environmental justice and increase equitable access to San Diego’s natural resources. When she’s not reading up on the Clean Water Act, you might find her in the crowd of surfers at Tourmaline or strolling around the streets of South Park.
