SAN DIEGO, May 1, 2012 – Bird’s Surf Shed teamed up with San Diego Coastkeeper on a limited-edition “The Breaks” t-shirt collection. Available for sale at Bird’s Surf Shed, a portion of the proceeds from the shirts will go directly to Coastkeeper, a nonprofit organization that protects and restores fishable, swimmable and drinkable waters in San Diego County.

Designed by local agency MiresBall, the collection currently includes shirts for six breaks—Blacks, Cliffs, Jetty, Scripps, Tourmo and Windansea—with plans for more to be added by demand.

“These shirts are a great way to show the pride we have in the breaks we love to surf, while helping to protect those spots for the future,” said Eric “Bird” Huffman, owner of Bird’s Surf Shed. “We partnered with Coastkeeper because they help keep our breaks clean and beautiful.”

To promote the collection’s launch, Huffman created a one-time-only contest with Coastkeeper. The first ten people to donate $100 to Coastkeeper by midnight Saturday, May 5, 2012 will be entered for a chance to win a free surf session with Huffman to go on the hunt for the best waves in town. Six winners will be chosen, with each donor also receiving one of “The Breaks” T-shirts. To donate, please click here.

“The best way to celebrate local surf breaks is by protecting the water quality at each of those beaches,” said Gale Filter, Coastkeeper’s executive director. “Bird’s Surf Shed serves as a shining example of how businesses can invest in local efforts to protect those resources we depend on for a strong economy.”

Huffman brought surf culture and local pride to San Diego for 40 years before opening Bird’s Surf Shed in Linda Vista in 2011. The “Shed,” housed in a Quonset Hut on West Morena Blvd, provides gear and information to local surfers, from boards to tide charts and local surf conditions.
