April 21- Belly Up Presents Third Annual Ocean Commotion Concert

Headlined by Barnwell Shift, concert will benefit San Diego Coastkeeper

San Diego, April 21-On Tuesday, May 13, San Diego Coastkeeper invites San Diego to rock for a cause at Belly Up Tavern’s 3rd Annual Ocean Commotion Concert. Featuring three of the hottest names in local music, the concert for a cause will return to Solana Beach to perform in celebration and support of San Diego’s fishable, swimmable and drinkable waters. Bands include The Barnwell Shift, Lee Koch and The Blue Moonies.

Known for their progressive, yet playful “shift rock,” Oceanside’s own The Barnwell Shift is a talented trio of musicians who shift musical instruments and genres while artfully blending the sounds of funk, folk and rock. The band challenges the traditional one-person, one-instrument musical norms while eliciting a truly unique crowd response filled with their smooth and shifty grooves.

Lee Koch was raised in the Inland Empire listening to the sounds of the 60s on the radio. In 2009, he moved to Ventura and released his first album, which drew positive comparisons to Ben Harper, Amos Lee and Ray LaMontagne. He earned a place on NBC’s The Voice with a rendition of “Like A Rolling Stone.” Though ultimately sent packing before the finals, Koch walked away with encouraging words from all coaches, including Adam Levine who described Koch’s voice as “otherworldly.” Since competing on the show, Lee has toured, written and released his new album Whole Heart.

Encinitas-based The Blue Moonies formed in 2010, ironically and unknowingly on a Blue Moon. Comprised fully of music teachers, the band was brought together by a shared profession and mutual love of music. They have played a wide variety of venues throughout the county and are regularly featured at various 102.1 KPRI events. Their self-titled full-length release came out in 2011.
Music enthusiasts and those who seek fishable, swimmable, drinkable waters in the county can rock out with no qualms, because all proceeds, every drawing ticket and every dance move, will benefit San Diego Coastkeeper’s work to protect and restore fishable, swimmable and drinkable water in San Diego County. In addition, there will be an opportunity drawing for more than $2,000 worth of prizes from an array of local businesses, including gift certificates to restaurants and breweries, surf and skate gear, apparel, vacation stays, beach rentals and much more.

Tickets to this May 13 event are $10 in advance, $12 day of the show and $18 for special reserve seating. They are available via phone through 858-481-8140, online or in person at The Belly Up Tavern, 143 S. Cedros Ave,Solana Beach, CA 92075.
