Nicky joined San Diego Coastkeeper in October 2025 as the Communications Manager. Her work focuses on sharing Coastkeeper’s clean water advocacy with supporters and the general public through email campaigns, newsletters, social media channels, and media relations.
She brings a unique blend of science and storytelling to the team. Nicky holds a Master’s degree in Marine Biodiversity & Conservation from Scripps Institution of Oceanography, where she focused her studies on pollution and water quality, and a Bachelor’s degree in Photography and Video. Before joining Coastkeeper, she gained valuable experience at the Monterey Bay Aquarium and Monterey Bay Fisheries Trust, where her work spanned communications, program management, social media strategy, fundraising campaigns, impact metrics, and community engagement.
Nicky’s connection to the Waterkeeper movement runs deep. She’s volunteered with both Puget Soundkeeper in Seattle and Monterey Waterkeeper, giving her firsthand experience with the Waterkeeper approach of community science, grassroots engagement, and legal enforcement of clean water laws.
She is passionate about using storytelling to prevent shifting baselines and help communities understand their connection to the health of their watersheds. When not working, you can find her looking for nudibranchs at low tide, catching a comedy show, or on an outdoor adventure exploring Southern California.
