June 26 – San Diego Coastkeeper Announces Change in Leadership

Organization on track to achieve its 2012- 2015 strategic plan finalized this year

SAN DIEGO (June 26, 2012) – San Diego Coastkeeper’s board of directors announced today new leadership spearheaded by Megan Baehrens as executive director and Jill Witkowski as waterkeeper, a common structure in the global Waterkeeper Alliance. Baehrens will direct administrative, fundraising and managerial aspects and Witkowski will provide policy and legal direction.

Both assume their respective roles today following the departure of former executive director Gale Filter, who resigned on Friday, June 22, citing personal reasons. Filter described his time with the organization as “an excellent experience and truly rewarding.”

“We thank Gale for his strategic leadership and contributions to Coastkeeper and wish him well in the future,” said David Welborn, president of Coastkeeper’s board of directors. “Our board and staff are committed to executing the strategic plan that is now in place. We know that Jill and Megan’s passion and leadership will inspire our staff and volunteers to continue their important service to our community.”

Baehrens, previously development director, joined Coastkeeper in April 2009, and Witkowski, previously legal director, joined the organization in January 2010. Both have worked directly with the executive director and organizational leadership for the past several years.
