San Diego Coastkeeper was recently invited by the San Diego Surf Ladies to be a part of the first ever, Board Shorts 2012: Surf Films by SoCal Artists Inspired by Women, which took place on February 25 at The Loft. This fundraiser hosted by the San Diego Surf Ladies featured films from Southern California artists in addition to a couple international surf films – all of which centered on a love for the ocean. Not only was this an event full of amazing film makers, but photographic art, mixed media and paintings were also a major part of the event.
Needless to say, it was an inspiring night. Five-time world champion legend Linda Benson hosted and introduced the surf films. She is such a wonderful lady, extremely humble and generous, and she was nice enough to share some of her experience and wisdom with the audience.
In the end, all who attended had a common interest – the ocean. As a source of inspiration, a playground, a setting for adventure and a life source, the ocean and all of its wonders brought 200 people together on one night to share how the ocean influences them. When the ocean speaks to you, you listen; and right now San Diego’s waters need our help.
