March 27 – Belly Up Presents 2nd Annual Ocean Commotion Concert on March 27

Headlined by The Barnwell Shift, this event will benefit Coastkeeper

SAN DIEGO, March 19, 2013 – On Wednesday, March 27, San Diego Coastkeeper invites the San Diego community to rock for a cause at Belly Up Tavern’s 2nd Annual Ocean Commotion Concert. Several up-and-coming local bands will return to Solana Beach to perform in celebration and support of San Diego’s inland and coastal waters. Bands include The Barnwell Shift, Big Penny and the Blue Moonies.

Known for their progressive, yet playful “shift rock,” The Barnwell Shift consists of a talented trio of musicians who shift musical instruments and genres while artfully blending together the sounds of funk, folk and rock. Hailing from Oceanside, The Barnwell Shift seeks to challenge the traditional one-person, one-instrument musical norms while eliciting a truly unique crowd response filled with their smooth and shifty grooves.

Also returning for the 2nd Annual Ocean Commotion is Big Penny, a four-piece band who calls North San Diego’s Valley Center their home. Finding their musical inspiration within the banjo, guitar, harmonica, organ, drums, melodica, bass and mandolin, Big Penny cohesively blends together the sounds of rock, original folk, and dark country into an organic and unforgettable musical experience.

Capping off what is sure to be a funky fresh night to remember, San Diego’s own Blue Moonies will perform to the sounds of reggae, rock, and soul. With their vintage keyboards and tube amps, the Blue Moonies will take their Encinitas surf rock and combine it with reggae influences and soulful grooves on Belly Up’s stage in Solana Beach.

Be sure to attend this Belly Up show for exciting musical performances and a chance to shake it up with the friends and crew of San Diego Coastkeeper. Enter in an opportunity drawing for a chance to win weekend vacation stays at Grand Pacific Resorts, a Signature Barr surfboard with one-of-a-kind artwork by local artist Martin Nasim, surf and skate apparel, gift certificates to North County breweries and restaurants, and much more.

Party even harder knowing that all proceeds, including but not limited to every drawing ticket and every dance move, will benefit San Diego Coastkeeper’s work to protect and restore fishable, swimmable and drinkable water in San Diego County.

Tickets to this March 27 event are available via phone through 858-481-8140, online through www.bellyup.com or in person at The Belly Up Tavern, 143 S. Cedros Ave, Solana Beach, CA 92075.
