April 27 – Sea Rocket Bistro to Host Sustainable Seafood Cooking Classes May 22 – 24

SAN DIEGO—San Diegans are invited to dine and attend a three-part sustainable seafood cooking class from May 22 – 24 at Sea Rocket Bistro. Chef Jenn Felmley will give hands-on instructions using local, in-season seafood and ingredients to help attendees select, purchase, and prepare sustainable dishes. Each class costs $65 and proceeds with benefit San Diego Coastkeeper, the region’s largest environmental organization protecting inland and coastal waters. Tickets can be upgraded to $75 to include a membership for San Diego Coastkeeper, normally priced at $25.  

•     May 22, from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m., Sustainable Seafood Basics
In this introductory course to sustainable cooking, participants can learn how to choose environmentally friendly seafood as well as how to fillet and cut fish into individual portions. beginners to learn the steps needed for a healthy lifestyle and allow them to have their questions answered directly throughout the evening.

•    May 23, from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m., Everyday Sustainable Seafood
Chef Jenn will demonstrate sustainable, simple and everyday seafood meals with recipes that are easy to  for or those with an on-the-go lifestyle, these cooking recipes will be easy to prepare and at the same time will keep the family full during a hectic work week.

•    May 24, from 6 p.m. – 9 p.m., Fine Dining Sustainable Seafood
For participants who like to entertain friends and guests, the class on will share impressive ideas to showcase sustainable seafood dinners. Those who like to be challenged will explore detailed and delicious recipes that will keep guests coming for more.

Sea Rocket Bistro, Chef Jenn Felmley and San Diego Coastkeeper created the Sustainable Seafood Cooking Classes to help educate San Diego residents about ocean-friendly practices, including the importance of marine protected areas to ensure a healthy coastal ecosystem. Supporting local fisherman who embrace sustainable fishing practices that allows the San Diego region to cook and dine on seafood while giving the marine life a chance to repopulate, grow and thrive. Additionally, incorporating organic, locally grown and in-season ingredients supports low-impact farming that generates considerably less pollution from pesticides and fertilizers.

Chef Jenn Felmley’s journey began in Miami and Rhode Island at Johnson & Wales University, college of the culinary arts. Since graduating, she traveled the world honing her cooking skills before returning to San Diego where she is now a full-time culinary teacher. Throughout three evenings, Chef Jenn’s passion for cooking and teaching about food will tickle the taste buds of any environmentalist and foodie.
