I want to see a world where: everyone believes in climate change and works toward equitable and sustainable practices to ensure everyone has access to clean water and clean air.

Lucero joined San Diego Coastkeeper in September 2020 as the community policy coordinator. She supports the organization’s policy and advocacy work through community engagement to ensure environmental justice and equity.

Lucero’s passion for the environment began in high school, where she spent most of her weekends volunteering at the Aquarium of the Pacific. Lucero holds a B.A in Environmental Systems from the University of California San Diego, where she specialized in Environmental Policy. During her time at UC San Diego, she studied the effects of ocean acidification and rising water temperatures on marine animals. Lucero is a firm believer in the need for a multidimensional approach to solving the climate crisis that includes science, governance, and societal transformation. Prior to working with Coastkeeper, Lucero was a campaign organizer, working to elect and re-elect an environmental advocate to Congress.

When she isn’t working, Lucero can be found binge-watching TV, cooking, or working on craft projects.
