In order to further marine conservation goals in San Diego County, Coastkeeper is working with stakeholders and an array of other non-profit groups to increase the number, size, and protections of marine protected areas (MPAs) in Southern California, while raising awareness about the importance of MPAs among the public. We are mobilizing citizens to support the Marine Life Protection Act (MLPA) and aid the State’s efforts to create a series of marine reserves along the California coast by 2011. By performing outreach and educating the public on the importance of the beautiful marine ecosystems in our communities’ backyard, citizens will be compelled to be involved and generate support for the MLPA.
