San Diego Coastkeeper

Law & Policy Clinic Campaigns

Coastkeeper seeks to improve land-use decisions in San Diego County to enhance protection of water quality. Specifically, Coastkeeper is working to:

  1. Implement a South San Diego Bay organizing effort to develop policy recommendations for the Chula Vista General Plan Update;
  2. Coordinate North County Open Space Coalition to ensure that effective regional habitat plans are adopted and implemented in coastal North County; and
  3. Coordinate the Organization of Regional Coastal Activists or 'ORCA' to increase effectiveness of local activists at the California Coastal Commission.

If successful, Coastkeeper will help secure $10 million in funding for open space acquisition and Multiple Habitat Conservation Program (MHCP) implementation in Carlsbad; develop a comprehensive Chula Vista Bayfront plan (including land set-aside for habitat); and create a network of 25 activists providing regular input on Coastal Commission decisions
