Each year, thousands of students descend upon the Del Mar Fairgrounds’ Wyland Hall to talk science with local professionals at the High Tech Fair. Over 40 companies and organizations from San Diego’s technology and science community send representatives to two days of education and excitement about careers and education in science.

The public is welcome to join San Diego Coastkeeper at the Student-Parent Night on February 7. All school reservations are full for the Fair, meaning 2,500 middle and high school students from across San Diego County will be engaging in science activities. Students are guided by their teachers in preparing for the event in advance of the fair, using questions and themes provided by the organizers, and are expected to be interactive with each station.

There are seven different tracks of exhibitors at the High Tech Fair. Coastkeeper is part of the Conservation/Environmental Science Track, and we will be showcasing some of the technology used in our water monitoring lab for bacteria testing (UV lights and safety goggles are good fun!). We will also be promoting our elementary science education program Project SWELL to teachers in attendance at the fair.

Thanks to the San Diego Science Alliance who organizes the High Tech Fair, local students have an engaging opportunity to get out of the classroom and interact with science professionals. Coastkeeper will be on hand sharing our mission, with hopes of inspiring our future environmental leaders!
