World Oceans Day

After a decade of unofficial worldwide celebration, in 2008 the United Nations General Assembly designated June 8 as World Oceans Day to raise awareness of our ocean and our connection to the sea. Of course, we thought, “Why not throw a party?” Partner organization Birch Aquarium at Scripps hosts the Coastal Champion Awards in their world-renowned aquarium and invites everyone who attends to stay after breakfast and enjoy the exhibits in honor of World Oceans Day.
