Walk the Watershed

In 2012, we held Walk the Watershed at Otay Valley Regional Park. More than 200 adults, students and children came to the Otay Valley on Saturday, March 31, to learn about their neighborhood watershed, the native and invasive plant and animal species, urban runoff, historical land use in the watershed and to participate in an invasive plant restoration project pulling ice plant.
Thank you to everyone who helped organize, donate and participate. You made a wonderful event even more special. Participants enjoyed eating tamales from Tamales Pepe, seeing amazing reptiles and insects from Maureen Lewis, dancing to the awesome Mexican Folklorico and playing a raffle with prizes including t-shirts, backpacks from REI, Chula Vista Nature Center admissions and other donations from community organizations.
During the closing ceremonies, City of San Diego Supervisor Greg Cox and Councilmember David Alvarez reminded about the importance of keeping our parks, particularly the Otay Valley Regional Park, open for outdoor recreation as well as protected and clean.
Thank you to Walk the Watershed sponsors:
