Coastal Cleanup Day in San Diego
Forget spring cleaning, we’re starting a new movement—fall cleaning. In September, Coastal Cleanup Day will unite more than 10,000 San Diego volunteers at 80 coastal and inland sites to crackdown on rogue trash across the county. It’s local grassroots environmentalism connecting at an international level. San Diego volunteers attack seemingly inconsequential items like cigarette butts and food wrappers. And they hunt massive pollution like couches, tires and appliances.
Last year? 174,000 pounds of trash fell victim to our squadron. San Diego Coastkeeper and I Love A Clean San Diego, two leading San Diego environmental nonprofits, in partnership with the California Coastal Commission, mobilize the masses for the beach cleanup. It is San Diego’s largest one-day volunteer event and a major environmental education program regarding San Diego’s battle against marine debris.
Mark your calendar for September 25, 2010, for the next Coastal Cleanup Day.
