Public Relations and Social Media Internships

San Diego Coastkeeper, a non‐profit organization working to protect and restore swimmable, fishable and drinkable water in San Diego County, seeks two energetic, well‐organized and self‐motivated individuals to intern as public relations intern and social media intern under the director of marketing and communications. These two positions report to the communications director to help assist with specific communications projects that will expand our organizational capacity.

Public Relations Intern Responsibilities

Research and update awards bureau
Manage and update media list
Create and build newsletter
Construct press releases
Brainstorm to create Coastkeeper Club on CampusResearch and update awards bureau

  • Research and update award bureau

Social Media Intern Responsibilities:

  • Track/analyze social media and digital marketing metrics
  • Create events, update volunteer of the month on Facebook
  • Distribute events through community calendars
  • Network social media accounts (Twitter, YouTube, Facebook, etc.)
  • Research and create new social media accounts (Tumblr, Google+, etc.)


Applicants should have experience with creating marketing and communications projects and an interest in environmental awareness campaigns. Candidates must have excellent oral and written communication skills, highly developed  organizational skills and a demonstrated ability to manage projects.  He or she must be hard working, self-motivated and must demonstrate a deep commitment and passion for environmental protection.

Depending on the project, projects may require:

  • Writing experience
  • Design experience
  • Interactive media experience
  • Attention to detail and organization expertise

Candidates must have, or be in the process of obtaining, a university degree.

Salary, Benefits & Terms

Compensation—nonpaid, ideally for college credit
Schedule—Part time (15-30 hours/week) (may include some weekends)
Start Date—As soon as filled
